Road trip break

After my beloved Cocker Spaniel passed away I decided to visit the dog show I had gone to with family friends each year to talk to breeders about getting another 4-H and show dog that I could show and participate in performance activities with. I met Cardis, began to talk to breeders, and fell inlove with the breed!

I reserved a pup that was due in a litter later that summer (I reserved 'Traum' in Jan. '00) but my boy wasn't born.  Life happened and I didn't have time or energy for a dog even though being dogless killed me.  In early '02 I e-mailed Carolyn to keep a lookout for litters that may work since I was planning on possibly getting my dream dog the next year.  After randomly visiting the C-myste website I noticed there was a litter due on my birthday so I reserved my tiger striped dream dog.

Baby Traum

Traum was the first puppy born and was one of 4 puppies.  (Brindle boy, tri girl, brindle girl, tri boy!)  I met Traum for the first time when he was 7 weeks old and of course was madly in love!  Traum was very calm and spent most the time on his back asleep cuddling.  I had asked Carolyn and Mandy for a laid back cuddly boy who looked like a tiger before he was born!

Traum is still very laid back and cuddly.  He can be active when he needs to be of course as any herding dog should and he has very strong herding instincts (Herding the neighbors chickens when they go over the fence into our yard).  As my first show dog and first Cardie I'm not sure what to expect but I do know this is the right breed for me- and as they say...  like potato chips you can't just have one ;)

Traum has been shown in the conformation ring a little, owner handled but is not pointed.  We're working on basic agility and obedience.  I've also done a little tracking/Search and Rescue training with Traum and we're working on at home musical free style and many 'stoopid pet tricks'.  I hope to do 'everything' with Traum and sample all the wonderful things my first herding dog can do!

Traum is a house dog (has never been left outside longer than a few hours) and is my constant companion.  He's known as my shadow, and goes everywhere with me.
