Adoption Information

1 week old babies out of the Bam x Betty litter born 7/06

If you would like to reserve a baby in a current litter we may require a deposit of $10 per rat. This will count towards the purchase price of your rat. The deposit will not be refunded if you for any reason change your mind. This is one of our ways of making sure our babies go to quality homes and making sure people who reserve babies are really interested and dedicated. The deposit will be refunded if we are not able to place the baby with you (For health or behavior reasons, etc.).  Most are rats are reserved before they are born...  we tend to have a few month waiting list and have had people who've waited 6 months or more for babies from us.  We breed only a few litters to insure quality and our rats are highly sought after as pets and for quality breeding programs.

Reserving a rat:
Our goal is to place healthy, loving pets in responsible forever homes with people who will adore them as much as we do! If you are interested in reserving a rat from us please e-mail us with what you are looking for (You can view our planned litters page to see what we have in the works) and why you are interested in obtaining a rat from us.  (Pet only, show, breeding...)  Also let us know about you, your family, other pets (Past and present), living situation (Do you rent or own.  If you rent are you allowed to own small pets?), and let us know about your experiences with rats.  If you have questions for us feel free to ask also!  We like to get to know possible pet owners to be sure we have what you are looking for and that we feel you would be a suitable home for our beloved babies!  If you have a veterinary reference please provide their information as we would love to contact them and if needed give them rat heath reference info and get to know them.

We are very proud of our rats and strive to find the best homes possible for them.  If you are under 18 we will need to talk to your parents, and they will need to sign the care contract.  We want to make sure the whole family understands the responsibility of pet ownership and agree to care for the pet if needed.  Before you contact us about adopting one of our beloved babies please make sure your family and anyone else involved in your life approves of the new family addition! It is very stressful for animals to be placed from home to home so we wish to prevent this situation whenever possible and household disapproval is one of the main reasons animals are placed in rescues!  If your family needs more information on these wonderful pets I'm glad to give more info and references.

If for ANY reason you ever need to place an EaglesEye baby you are required to contact me! Any new home must be approved by me if you wish to place a rat adopted from me to insure the safety, and well being of our beloved rat kids, and to keep track of their where-abouts. Do not EVER rehome an EAGL baby without our knowledge, or consent!

Transportation:
Depending on where you are located we may be able to meet you half way or visit you to drop off the baby. We may require gas money for these trips. You will need to contact us ahead of time. We are located in Salem area, Oregon.  Be sure to ask us if we plan on traveling to your area we attend many dog and rat shows and may be planning on a trip to your area!

Sadly we do not allow visits to our home due to the risk of dangerous infections, and deadly viruses.  Keeping a closed rattery, and strictly quarantining all new animals helps insure happy, and healthy animals, and protects our beloved pets.

Shipping:
This is only done legally through airlines. If you would like rats shipped you will need to contact me about it. All the shipping costs (transportation, and airport fees) will have to be paid by you as well as the cost of the rats and their health checks. I may also request to be paid for the time it takes to plan and work out the shipping as it is a very lengthy and time consuming process. I will require a $50 deposit for shipping plans. This deposit will not be returned if you change your mind on getting the rats. This is because the cost and planning is a very long and intensive costly process. If we are unable to ship the rats the deposit will be returned.  Shipping will be done from the Portland, OR airport (PDX), and we will only ship during safe weather conditions.

Payment:
We accept paypal, money order and cash.  We do not accept checks due to the risk, and bank charges if they bounce
.

Holding:
Sometimes people cannot take in or pick up adopted babies when they are ready to go home.  We will hold babies for up to a month after adoption for no charge.  Please let us know if your not planning on picking up your babies soon after they are ready so we can work something out!

Contract terms:
All rats are placed on a care contract. The contract is meant to make sure our babies are safe for life and to keep as many rats as possible out of rescue, abusive or negligent homes, well cared for and loved for their whole lives.  Please do not contact us about adopting one of our beloved babies if you cannot provide a safe, loving and permant home for them, or disagree with any of our contract terms.  This contract states our expectations of the homes we place our babies in.  If you have any questions about our terms or would like a copy of the contract feel free to e-mail me.  The contract terms are listed below:

1. The Buyer accepts the responsibility for caring for above rat and providing properly for its welfare. The Buyer agrees to follow the Breeder and Veterinarians instructions on care, housing, diet, treatment and health of the above rat.

2. The Buyer agrees that above rat will always receive prompt top-notch medical care and will never be allowed to harbor parasites.

3. The Buyer agrees to provide companionship for above rat, never leaving above rat alone for long periods of time without human attention or a fellow rat companion.  Buyer agrees to house the above rat with a same sex companion unless above rat or the companion is surgically altered then an opposite sex companion is acceptable.

4. The Buyer agrees to provide a generous amount of exercise for above rat, to provide it with safe toys and to not keep it on cedar, pine, or other bedding harmful to rats.

5. The Buyer agrees that said rat will NEVER be sold, leased, bred to supply, or given to any pet shop, animal shelter, research laboratory or similar facility.

6. Buyer agrees NEVER to breed said rat without special permission from Breeder.  Breeder also has full right to reject any planned breeding or possible mate.  Ownership of any litter bred without Breeders permission will be passed to breeder and transportation will be provided at Buyers expense.  If rat is bred the rattery prefix 'EAGL' or 'Eagles' is to be used on all pedigree information to identify said rat as having been bred by Breeder.

7. The Breeder agrees that above rat is presently free of disease and that above rat will be accepted by Breeder with a full refund of purchase price if returned within seven days of the date of this contract with a veterinarian's certificate stating that above rat has a health problem. The Breeder warrants that above rat is genetically sound and will replace above rat with another of equal value at no additional cost if above rat ever dies of a genetic defect and that said defect is evidenced in a veterinary necropsy presented to Breeder.

8. The Breeder reserves the right to consent to the sale or gift of above rat to any person other than Buyer. Breeder further reserves the right to have above rat returned if the Buyer, for any reason, cannot keep above rat any longer.  If above rat is to be placed in a home other than that of the buyer for any reason the breeder must be contacted. The new home must be screened and approved by Breeder, and a contract by Breeder must be signed by the new owner otherwise the rat will be returned to breeder under current rescue terms.

9. Above rat is sold as: Pet Quality, Breeder Show Quality, Show Quality, or Rescue. (See below for descriptions of these categories) However, since rats change as they mature, Breeder cannot guarantee that above rat will maintain show characteristics as an adult.  Rescue rats are to never be bred as their origin is usually questionable and they are not of breeding quality.

10. The buyer agrees that, if any of the above terms are disregarded, the Breeder may claim above rat WITHOUT REFUND of the purchase price.

11. Buyer agrees to pay all court costs if this contract is litigated and that any suit shall be filed and tried in Oregon under the law of Oregon.

Rat descriptions- When we sell rats we classify them into four categories.

Pet Quality: This rat would not be show or breeding quality. This rat may have a show fault (Markings, color, conformation, scar, etc.) or a genetic defect. It is from known lines and is pedigreed but should never for any reason be used as a breeding animal- either due to safety of the animal or the quality of the individual. (Such as tailless females and hairless does from some lines)

Breeder Show Quality: This is a show quality rat that we have discussed before hand about you using as a breeder rat. Breeder rats are only sold to screened, responsible breeders who we believe will compliment our lines and the general rat population. The above terms for breeding apply for these rats. (See term #6 for reference)

Show Quality: This rat would be show quality but not sold as a breeding rat.  Permission for breeding may possibly be granted for a show quality animal.

Rescue: Rescue rats are never to be bred. These are the rats which have been turned into us because they were abused, neglected, unwanted, or because their owners could no longer keep them. They usually come from unknown (Most often feeder) lines, and many have health or behavior problems. Many rescue rats are 'special needs' rats who need a special home and are not breeding quality. (Due to health, temperament, physical condition, age, etc.)  We do not guarantee the genetic health of rescue rats as they come from undocumented backgrounds.
