About the Rattery

Emily with EAGL RubberDucky
Dalmatian Dumbo Boy

EaglesEye Rattery is breeding quality pet fancy rats in many varieties, specializing in stunning pearl merles, but also breeding blues & blue dilutes, siamese, and high marked rats such as blazed, roan, masked, and Dalmatian.  We also breed show marked self's, and the exciting DownUnder ratties!  We're proud to be the first breeder in Oregon breeding the DownUnder, and roan (AKA Husky) gene.  We breed many coat types including standard, satin, and rex.  Each rat we own is a beloved family pet, with a special place in our hearts and home.

Every rat that comes into our home whether from a litter we bred, a rat we bought, or as a rescue is well loved, and cared for.  I have many years of experience in animal behavior and care studies and have done intense research on socializing rats and other animals.  I have spent most of my life being mentored by top dog breeders about breeding philosophies, ethics, as well as raising and placing babies and apply what I have learned from these wonderful people to my rats.

All our rats are handled daily, litters are handled multiple times a day from birth with loving care.  We take our rats on short trips around the community so that they are well socialized in different surroundings and with different people.  We take our babies to non rat friends houses so that they can be fondled and cared for in strange surroundings (without health risks).  This treatment at a young age helps ensure that later in life young rats will easily adapt to new situations, and will easily adapt to a new home if he/she is placed.  We breed very few litters because of the intense time and effort it takes us to carefully raise babies to our standards making sure they are ready to go to their new homes, or stay with us as beloved family pets.

Our rats are raised in a smoke free home, and have contact with many other animals including dogs, cats, and are socialized with other rats.  We are sure to allow contact with many different people in many situations including children and when possible mentally and physically handicapped people. My young daughter spends a lot of time with the rats, and handles them daily with supervision.

We introduce our babies to stressful situations in a controlled manner during their imprinting stage to ensure the ability to deal with stress successfully as they mature.  We use the socializing methods of experienced dog breeders, and animal behavior professionals and have spent years learning rat behavior to ensure we breed and raise the best possible family pets. We run a 'closed rattery', and do a full quarentine on all new pets to be sure no viral, or bacterial infections enter our home and endanger the lives of our beloved pets. This way we know we will not place sick animals in new homes!

We keep our rats in large same sex group cages with sleep baskets, tubes, hammocks, and toys. Our rats are fed only human grade foods. They are fed a grain based mix, as well as healthy home cooked meals. Our rats recieve a varied diet, and plenty of fresh foods, and treats!

We strive to breed laid-back 'lap rats' who are calm, and cuddly. I prefer 'squishy' rats who will go limp in your hands, and lay tolerant of belly kisses, baths, and nail clipping with no fuss! With many of the babies we have placed their owners have told us they were the "best pets", and "calmest and kissiest" rats they have ever met. Many experienced veternarians also compliment ours rats laid back aloof nature, and tolerance of exams, and health treatment. This is what we strive for in every litter we breed- easy to handle, friendly family companions from our home to yours.

We were the first breeder in Oregon breeding the newly imported 'DownUnder' rats late '03/early '04, and the first breeder in the NW to breed roans AKA "Husky" rats in '06. We have bred many show winners even with our limited showing, and have sent breeding rats to breeders all over the US, including Alaska, and Hawaii.

Feel free to contact us about our upcoming/planned litters, and to be put on our waiting list!  We breed for health, temperament and longevity first and foremost while producing unique varieties, and the best show prospects possible.

For information on our breeding goals please visit the Goals page.  We strive to produce great all around healthy, well socialized companions.  For more information on adopting an EaglesEye rat  please see our Adoption Info page.  Please feel free to browse our web pages and see the animals we are so proud of!  If you have any questions about our wonderful rats please feel free to e-mail me.  Our rats are first off loving pets and family members- not breeding stock!

*We do not breed or sell feeders or communicate with anyone who does.  Please do not contact us if you are looking for feeders!  These rats are beloved pets and family members not livestock/produce.*
