'Aussie Cinnamon'
Photos of Australian Cinnamons
This photo page is not science, but is a collection of photos and observations of a variety I adore and have had lots of interest in. A few people have wanted to see the differnce between 'normal' cinnamons, and what people are calling "Aussie Cinnamon". Here is EAGL Thank Lucky Stars a US cinnamon (who scored perfect on color at the RatsPacNW March '06 show), and UCVR August Sunrise an Aussie cinnamon to give a demo.

August on the left (The Redder color), and Lucky to the right. Sadly I
didn't have a helper so had to juggle 2 rats on my own ;0P
The genetics on the Aussie mink are not the same as the US mock mink, but have bred true with some "browns" in the US breeders are assuming are the UK minks. Aussie cinnamons have a nice rich red color, and dark pigment, while US cinnamon tends to be more orange with lighter pigment.
Aussie Cinnamons have a striking red cast to them, and a dark pigment on their ears, and face. As babies they have what resembles shading on their nose, resembling siamese with the point, which seems to fade with the first moult.

This handsome rex boy is the above pictured Aussie Cinnamon baby. Notice the
dark pigment around his nose.
I first fell in love with the color at a show in CA where I met my beloved RG Ruffles. Ruffles was out of direct import Australian parents and became a favorite pet living to be almost 3 years of age. To me this color has such a vibrant warm tone I can't help but be attracted to it!
